All-inclusive works best if you want to stay put and eat and drink freely. Going without it suits people who want to roam, since leaving a resort for activities is harder and costs more. The package also pays off less if you are not a big drinker.

Quick picks: all-inclusive or not?
The main draw is price. The attractive price is the main advantage of an all-inclusive vacation. Either way, these seven stops from the Cancun sights list give you a reason to leave the pool:
- Torre Escénica de Cancún
- Interactive Aquarium
- El Rey Archaeological Zone
- El Meco Archaeological Site
- Skywheel Cancun
- Golf Puerto Cancun
1. Torre Escénica de Cancún
One full turn takes about 30 minutes.
3. El Rey Archaeological Zone
The settlement peaked around 250-600 AD. Entry is M$100, and it opens daily from 08:00 to 16:00. Bring mosquito repellent.
4. Museo Maya de Cancún and San Miguelito
Find them at Blvd. Kukulcan km 16.5. Entry is M$100.
5. El Meco Archaeological Site
A small site museum is on the grounds.
6. Skywheel Cancun
The aquarium is next door.
7. Golf Puerto Cancun
The course has water and sand traps. Holes 13 and 14 run beside the ocean and are usually windy. The fee is US$160 plus club rental. It opens daily from 07:00 to 23:00. Golf is a good test of your package: check whether golf is included at an all-inclusive resort, because it is not always.
Tips before you go
Know what the package covers. Resorts usually include room, food and drinks, and on-site activities. Premium a-la-carte dishes, spa services, third-party tours and babysitting are commonly not included. Carry some cash for tips and extras.
Check the spa as well. Spa services are not always covered in the price.
Plan your trips out. A 15-minute ride to the airport and back was $52, and there is no Uber in Cancun. Renting a car for the week, or staying a few extra days outside the resort, is one way around that. Booking resort tours instead means visiting the same attractions as many other tour buses.
Pick a resort to fit your style. Cancun has resorts for beach lovers, partiers and families. Names on a 2026 all-inclusive list include Hyatt Ziva Cancun, Moon Palace Cancun and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun. If you have kids, triple or quadruple rooms are generally cheaper in all-inclusive deals.
Should you go all-inclusive in Mexico?
It depends on how you travel. Packages are popular because they opened the Mexican Caribbean to families on more modest budgets. They are less useful if you want to sample street food, walk through markets and meet locals. Resorts may also pitch you on timeshare presentations.
Choose all-inclusive if you want a simple beach week with food and drinks covered. Skip it if you plan to explore, since the sights above are mostly in the hotel zone and nearby. A mix also works: stay at a resort, then add a few days outside it.
Ask what your package leaves out before you book. That one step settles most of the cost question.
